The laser-melted wind-sprayed metal powder forming (LENS) system uses a high-power laser to densely melt metal powder onto a three-dimensional base structure to achieve metal 3D printing . It uses geometric geometry data provided by computer-aided design (CAD) files to control point-by-point melt-stacking of metal materials. It is equipped with software and closed-loop control systems to ensure the geometric integrity and mechanical reliability of the 3D printing process.

The LENS process is carried out in a sealed working chamber filled with argon. The oxygen and moisture content in the working chamber is kept below 10 ppm to ensure the cleanliness of the parts and to prevent oxidation of the material. The metal powder material is delivered to the nozzle by Optomec's proprietary, precisely regulated flow powder transport system. When the melt accumulation of a single layer of material is completed, the powder nozzle continues to move to the next layer. In this way, the entire solid part can be constructed layer by layer. The components after the completion of the melt deposition may also be subjected to heat treatment, hot isostatic pressing or any specific machining treatment.

Using high-power lasers, process parameter control and control of the entire working environment, LENS technology can efficiently process a variety of high-performance metal materials such as titanium, stainless steel and Inconel, and meet the key requirements for special applications. Quality requirements.

LENS technology can be used as a stand-alone system or as a modular printing unit integrated into existing or newly formed CNC machine systems. LENS metal additive printing equipment can work in the same platform system as traditional machining to take advantage of the existing foundation to allow the mechanic to manipulate the additive printing function using a familiar user interface.
