The application of indentation and bleeding in printing

It is often said that seven-point plate-making and three-point printing, and clever use of some skills in the plate-making process can often play a finishing touch on printing. Therefore, if you want to be an excellent designer and platemaker, you must be very familiar with the entire process of printing in order to produce a printing plate that meets the requirements for copying various manuscripts, and ultimately achieve the faithfulness of printing to copying manuscripts.

Whether it is offset printing, flexo printing, gravure printing, or screen printing, obtaining rich colors cannot be achieved by a single color. Many colors can be restored to the color of the original through more than two colors.

Below, I will use specific examples to describe the application of indentation and bleeding during the plate-making process for peer reference.

1. Indentation technology

Indentation technology refers to the two-color or multi-color superimposed graphics, according to the actual situation when making a plate, according to the color separation order, the superimposed previous color plate is slightly indented on the basis of the original size, so as to The overprint is accurate when printing, making the pictures more realistic. For example, the "China Environmental Protection" mark on various packaging products currently on the market is overprinted with three colors of green, yellow and gold. In actual printing, many printed products are difficult to be delivered to users due to inaccurate overprinting when green and yellow are superimposed into green, causing great losses. Some people think that the spot color green can be used to solve the problem. But whether to increase the spot color green must also consider whether the company's own printing equipment has enough color groups to achieve this process. How to solve if the color groups of four-color, six-color, eight-color and even ten-color printing presses are full? In addition, each additional color has at least two disadvantages: one is the increase in cost; the second is to increase the difficulty of the printing operation.

The author believes that for this situation, it is a good method to apply the indentation technique in the plate-making process. When making a plate, indent the yellow or blue plate, and the problem of inaccurate overprinting can be easily solved.

In addition, the text on many packages is currently overprinted with multiple colors. According to common sense, color separation and overprinting of text is not advocated. According to the data, the error of image overprint in color printing is below 0.3mm, which is not obvious to human eyes. When the text overprint error is about 0.1mm, the human eye can easily perceive it. However, in some occasions, in order to highlight a certain artistic effect of text, when color separation overprinting must be used, indentation technology can be used in the plate making to reduce the difficulty of printing.

Second, bleeding technology

Bleeding technology means that in order to ensure the stability of the original design size in post-press processing, when color separation and plate making, according to the actual situation, some color plates are expanded outwards by a certain proportion in the original design size. Modern packaging is not only through a single printing, but also undergoes many processes from printed products to finished products, such as: compounding and bag making in flexible packaging, glazing, laminating and die cutting in paper packaging. These processes may cause large errors between the design size and the actual size. Therefore, it is necessary to reasonably apply bleeding techniques according to different designs. For example, the main color of many flexible packaging is full-field, in order to ensure the stability of the basic size in the compounding, slitting and bag-making processes, the main color version is expanded 1.5 ~ 3mm during electro-engraving, so as to ensure that the finished product meets the requirements .

There are many technologies in the plate making process, such as trapping and incremental, etc. If it can be applied flexibly, it will be easier to faithfully reproduce the original manuscript and make the customer more satisfied.
