Through these sensors, the robot can judge the size of the obstacle and how to cross it. Even if the sensor fails to detect the obstacle in advance, the wheel of the wheelchair will hit the obstacle, and the torque will automatically change. Professor Nakajima said: "With this method, the robot can safely detect the road surface. If the sensor detects a step, the robot can calculate whether it can pass."
