In September of this year, the Regeneration era reported an event that HP printer firmware upgrades caused third-party supplies to fail to work properly on HP printers.
Subsequently, two US law firms, Garrison Davis LLC and Girard Gibbs, filed a class action lawsuit against HP for the firmware upgrade of the printer.
According to foreign media reports, there were four class actions against HP printer firmware upgrades, three of which all claimed that HP printer software upgrades caused third-party supplies to not work properly on HP printers. A few days ago, a plaintiff in a class action lawsuit requested that the four class actions be combined in California.
The inter-regional litigation jury said that the four class actions against HP were similar and could be guaranteed to be transferred to Judge Lucy H. Koh of the District Court for the Northern District of California.
In September, HP OfficeJet, OfficeJet Pro and OfficeJet Pro X series printer users reported that HP printers were not working properly when using third-party supplies. Subsequently, HP issued a statement saying that the printer firmware was upgraded for printer security considerations. The division also stated that the printer, such as the HP Security Series chip installed in the toner cartridge, is not affected by this firmware upgrade.
HP subsequently apologized to the printer user for the firmware upgrade and said it will release another firmware upgrade to address the issues with previous firmware upgrades.
