George Heim: The ultimate goal is to become a "magic artifact"

George Heim, the ashes collector with 3,600 Rubik's cubes, includes the British and French versions of the "Alexander Star" produced in the 1980s, the columnar 3rd-order cube "Christopher's Magic Gem" and the discontinued "Flower God" Star".

[Chinese and foreign toy nets · Toy culture] plus more than 2,000 Rubik's cubes sold, the 55-year-old Luxembourgman Georges Helm has a total of 3,600 Rubik's Cube and 600 Rubik's Cube secrets. His biggest daughter is 30 years old, almost as long as his collection of Rubik's Cube. His son has a full set of 2×2×2 to 7×7×7 cubes, and all can be unlocked.

Despite this, his son’s collection still failed to catch up with the old man’s level. There is a 9th-order cube in Heim's collection. His collections also include the British and French versions of the "Alexander Star" produced in the 1980s, the columnar 3rd-order cube "Christopher's Magic Gem" and the discontinued "Flower Star". In addition to these rare items that make people's eyes red, there are humorous gadgets like Cheese Cube, Mickey Cube and UFO Rubik's Cube.

The Rubik's Cube collectors regularly hold exchanges, the most famous of which is the International Intelligence Toy Carnival held every three years in the United States. The last time in 2008, Heim deliberately flew to Portugal. In Luxembourg, Rubik's Cube is not a common toy, so Heim also organizes Rubik's cube teaching activities.

Years ago, when Heim had just sprouted the idea of collecting Rubik's Cube, he couldn't afford such an expensive toy—it was going to Germany to buy Rubik's Cube at the time, which made Heim very lost. On the day of Easter, his wife magically took out a Rubik's cube: "The gift is just a counterfeit." Heim is now separated from his wife, but he still takes the Rubik's Cube with him. It is an orange plastic 3rd-order cube with 6 different colors of love. Heim also bought some similar alternatives in case it broke out one day.

Q: When did you start to have the idea of collecting Rubik's Cube?

A: In December 1980, I was sleepy in a job-related training course. Suddenly, a burst of humming sound came from behind, which was the unique voice of the Rubik's Cube. At that time, I still didn't know what the Rubik's Cube was. Out of boredom, I turned my head again and again to see the source of the sound. Finally, in the five or six rows behind me, I saw a lady playing a colorful cube. During the lunch break, I ran to the lady. This is the first time I have seen Rubik's Cube. It's very novel, but I don't know that it has a lot of wonderful places, and soon I forgot. A year later, I happened to see an article in the German magazine about the Rubik's cube gameplay. I realized that this was just as interesting as it was, and I had the idea of trying the Rubik's Cube myself.

Q: What is the fastest speed of your solution? Explain some secret recipes?

A: I am not a person who can quickly solve the Rubik's Cube. The average time for solving a 3rd-order cube is 1 minute, and the fastest record in the world is about six or seven seconds. I am mainly a collector. Of course, almost all of my collection of Rubik's Cubes have been cracked, except for Tony Fisher's Golden Rubik's Cube. Between 1982 and 1984, I published some handbooks on intellectual toys. Maybe you can look at it, haha.

Q: Which is your favorite Rubik's Cube?

A: All the 3rd-order cubes, maybe this is related to my first collection. In any case, the size of the 3rd cube is just right, I can carry it with me, and I don't have to worry about it falling into several pieces. I can take it to almost any place I want to go: trains, beaches, coffee shops, children's homes, resorts... anytime, anywhere.

Q: What did Rubik's Cube bring to you?

A: Active thinking and friends. In 2005, I met a French guest when I sold Rubik's Cube on eBay. We have become a real friend by online trading partners. We have exchanged more than 4,000 emails so far. I also often visit him in the south of France.

Q: What is the ultimate goal of your collection?

A: In 1980, my goal was to have a Rubik's Cube. I realized it. From 1981 to 1985, my goal was to collect as many Rubik's Cube and solution books as possible. Now I have collected more than 600 books; in 2009, I It was discovered that the Rubik's Cube in the world was inexhaustible, so it was decided to focus on the ancient Rubik's Cube, mainly the Rubik's Cube in the late 1970s and early 1980s. I was quoted as "The Rubik's Relics Expert" by the Rubik's Cube Ultimate Guide, which made me very proud.
