PAPERCHAIN publishes waste disposal principles

PAPERCHAIN, which is sponsored by members of the Paper Alliance (CPI) using recycled paper as raw material, has released a new set of guidelines for local waste disposal to minimize cross-contamination of recycled paper during recycling. This set of guidelines covers how to keep the paper clean, dry, how to store, sort waste, and related legal notes for recycling.

It is understood that this principle has been included in the British Standards Association Public Availability Specification (PAS) 105 document.

The Public Availability Specification 105 document (PAS 105) was compiled by the organization together with local governments, waste management representatives, and waste and energy action plan organizations.

PaperChain Chairman Martin Greene said: “Individually speaking, the publicly available specification does not change anything; it contains how investors can interpret and apply it in order to ensure the effectiveness of the economic and environmental benefits of paper recycling.”

The recycling of paper reduces the amount of landfills, enabling local governments to achieve statutory recycling and landfill conversion targets, and in addition reduces the industry's demand for primary wood pulp.

PAPERCHIAN and CPI currently provide support and advice on how to implement PAS 105.
